Being a deep thinker won't keep you from being a heavy drinker, but prayer can! I spent many years as a semi-functional alcoholic. By the grace of God, I have been delivered. My turning point came almost 10 years ago when I made a personal commitment to daily Bible reading and prayer. Shortly there after I discovered the Christian roots of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) in this book. I put Jesus Christ, the true power behind the 12 steps, back in His rightful place. I totally rejected the watered downed AA teaching of "a higher power" and "never being cured." I fully admitted to the Lord in prayer that if I was ever going to be free, He would have to do it. Complete deliverance didn't happen overnight. As often as I fell, I would pray and get back up again. Breaking the tigger was important. For me, Friday night was always the start of my weekend binge. Going to the gym on Friday night proved to be a good alternative to opening the bottle. It is not God's will that any of us be addicted to alcohol or any other drug. It only takes a tiny bit of faith that be sure of this (see 1 John 5:14-15 NKJV).Know that He doesn't free you just so you can continue living anyway you choose (see Luke 17:33 AMP).It has taken me a lifetime to learn this: The more you drink, the less you will pray (see Ephesians 5:18 AMP).The more you pray, the less you will drink. These two are on opposite poles (see Galatians 5:16-23 NKJV).Count the number of wake up calls God has already given you. He is under no obligation to give you another (see Isaiah 65:2 AMP).How long will you continue to bounce your head off the same brick wall and refuse to turn and pray? (see Proverbs 23:29-35 NLT)Pray and be converted. Then pray some more, reach out, and help your brothers (see Luke 22:31-32 KJV).May God use this book to bless you as He used it to bless me.Bruce
