A.D. Sloane is a truly talented writer who provides a historical landscape as her characters span the continents of Africa and Europe in the First Century A.D. The well-drawn protagonists of Nabii, her twin sister Nahlah, the Hun Bleda, the servant Sebinah, and Nabii's mentor, Bishop Priscillian lock horns with the forces of evil in the shape of Bishop Orosius, Empress Eudoxia and the many rivals and enemies that the protagonists face along the way. All of these forces engage in a battle for not only a good versus evil, but for the survival and the soul of the world that they currently reside in.With the book being at 438 pages, it is an extremely dense book. However, despite its thickness, this novel is a quick page-turner with the numerous intriguing and charismatic characters, engaging plots and subplots , and the breathtaking suspense that take place in exotic and mysterious places of antiquity. This book possesses a story that should stand out in the annals of epic fantasy fiction. Ms. Sloane has a strong and superior voice that is evident with this wonderful debut. The hope is that we hear her voice again as she crafts future adventures of fantasy.
